Dr. Adnan Chilwan is a leading authority in the field of Islamic Banking & Finance and credited as a pioneer of change and innovation. With a career spanning nearly two decades at reputed conventional and Islamic banks in the GCC, Adnan currently serves as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Islamic Bank, the world’s first Shariah-compliant player, and the largest Islamic bank in the UAE.
A respected leader in the industry, Adnan has been recognised by key organisations for his efforts in driving the globalisation of Islamic Finance. He has a number of accolades to his name: Forbes Middle East named him in its list of ‘Top Indian Leaders in the Arab World: Executive Management’ for two years running; he ranked 4th in the Top CEO 2015 Awards; he was named ‘Banking CEO of the Year’ at the prestigious Indian CEO 2014 Awards; he was given the Official Scarf Golden Medallion of ‘Wise Leadership’ at the 2014 Tatweej-Arab Business Awards; GIFA honoured him with the acclaimed ‘Islamic Banker of the Year’ award in 2014.
Adnan holds a PhD and an MBA in Marketing, in addition to being an Associate Fellow Member of the Islamic Finance Professionals Board, a Certified Islamic Banker (CeIB), and a postgraduate in Islamic Banking & Insurance.
Senior Vice President
Badr Buhannad joined DSOA in 2013 as Senior Vice President, Audit & Risk Management. In this role, he has been responsible for establishing an independent and objective Audit & Risk Management Unit. He ensures that the unit functions based on international auditing standards. He is also responsible for the development and achievement of the Risk Based Internal Audit Plan (RBIA) and the implementation of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) within the organisation.
He plays a role in achievement of the organisation’s goals by aligning the Audit & Risk Strategy with organisational goals and also contributing to strategic decisions in DSOA.
Ihsan Jawad is a Managing Partner at Middle East Venture Partners. He is also a Partner at HBT Ventures. Prior to joining HBT Ventures, Ihsan founded Zawya Limited in 2000 and served as its Chief Executive Officer until 2010. At Zawya, he oversaw the Zawya Limited's tremendous growth from start-up phase to becoming one of the leading business information services in the MENA region. He left Zawya in 2010, moving to Thomson Reuters. He left Thomson Reuters in 2012 to co-found HoneyBee Tech Ventures.
Prior to Zawya, Ihsan served as an Investment Banker at Merrill Lynch and previously, at Citigroup (formerly Schroeders). He is a Founding Board Member of the Gulf Venture Capital Association and has a keen interest in regional entrepreneurship. Jawad received a B.Sc. and Masters in Physics from Imperial College, London.
